After completing a painting on a small canvas of these umbrellas behind a bare Tucson wall. I felt they needed more emphasis on the space and shading trees of the park. I wanted to show an oasis of cool in the hot desert afternoon filled with the hum of bees, the flicker of butterflies and the hint of roses under the pungent Eucalyptus and Palo Verdi trees. I added the row of stately holly hocks and left the gate open to beckon the viewer into the magic.
