There had been excitement about the planned trip of two weeks in New
York City to see the Art in Central Park where saffron banners were
hung from more than 7500 gates over the walkways of the park. Nothing
had quite prepared us for the experience.
Each day, "The Gates" were in our thoughts and
affected our plans as we tried to see them as often as possible -- on
the way to the trains or to a museum or in the newly fallen snow. Each
hour, the light changed the ‘saffron' from orange to yellow gold to
orange red and the wind made the fabric speak. This painting came from
a day in the beginning.
